Design system & developer handoff

A shared language between design and engineering cuts rework and speeds every screen after the first.

Minimum viable design system

  • Tokens — colour, type scale, spacing, radii, elevation named and used consistently.
  • Core components — buttons, inputs, cards, modals, navigation states (default, hover, focus, disabled, error).
  • Patterns — page shells, forms, tables, and empty states documented once.

Handoff checklist

  • Redlines replaced by specs in Figma (or equivalent) with linked components.
  • Responsive behaviour noted per breakpoint, not implied.
  • Assets exported or referenced once — no duplicate sources of truth.
  • Accessibility: focus order, contrast, and motion preferences called out.
